The Greensburg plant received the Platinum Award from J.D. Power and Associates for outstanding quality. It was one of only three auto manufacturing plants in the world to receive the award in 2011.

The Acura ILX will be available with a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, as well as a standard gasoline engine.

The Acura ILX will replace the TSX as the automaker’s entry-level offering. Unlike the TSX, the Acura ILX will share its chassis with the Honda Civic. The former was built on the Honda Accord platform.

The ILX is not only the first Acura hybrid vehicle, but the first Acura model built at the Greensburg, Ind. plant. The plant currently produces the Honda Civic sedan, and is a zero-waste-to-landfill facility, meaning it sends no waste to landfills.

The company has not revealed the Acura ILX release date, but the Acura hybrid is expected to hit showrooms toward the end of 2012 as part of the 2013 Acura lineup.

Pricing has not yet been announced for the Acura ILX or the Acura hybrid. Its predecessor, the TSX, has a starting MSRP of $30,695 (plus destination charges) for the 2012 model year.

When the first Acura ILX and the Acura hybrid model goes on sale, it will be available at Valencia Acura in Valencia, Calif.
